CARMELLA

Carmella is a lady who runs what is called a "Wawa Wasi". It's a government program to help single mothers work. They put together 8 moms. One of them watches the kids and the other 7 work. The ones that work pay the mom that watches the kids S/. 2 a day to pay for their water etc...(the exchange rate is about S/. 2.78 to $1) And the government pays her S./ 180 a month. That's about $67 a month. She also gets a little bit of money from her child's father but NOTHING like American child support.

While we were talking to her we really felt God impressing on our hearts to bless her. Like I said above she watches 8 kids including her own and only owns 6 toys and they are old and broken (things like a naked barbie - they don't own any barbie clothes, and an old stacking toy that we would have thrown away,) She also had an 8 year old son with one toy of his own. An action figure that he was super proud of.

A few days ago we went to visit Carmella! Because of the generosity of some friends back home in the States we were able to get her a rug, 2 fans (one for her room one for the room she watches kids in) some supplies for fixing her wiring, some lights and a tub full of things like food, toiletries and a toy for each of her boys, and a red sea-saw for all the kids to play with. She was ecstatic!

THIS WAS A TANGIBLE WAY TO SHOW GOD'S LOVE TO THIS WOMAN :)

There is so much more we can do and would love to do to minister to her. But it was such a blessing to us to be able to meet and help this precious woman. Thank you to those of you who gave into this project!

You live in a blessed nation. No matter what the news says or how you feel about the current political or economic situation. Next time you spend $67 think about what your life would be like if that was your entire months paycheck.

Love you guys!

We made it to Peru!

Ok... So everyone is ok and safe, we made it to Lima, Peru around 11:30pm...And we got to our apartment (that were renting for 1 week) around 12am-ish.

Jose's dad Pedro, came ahead of us and found this place in Mira Flores, in the mean time till we get settled and rested in our new home. We have been on the road for a couple of weeks and we FINALLY got a good night's rest. It had been awhile after having a tight schedule.

When I first got off the plane the first thing that came to mind was, THIS IS MY HOME NOW. I mean seriously, this is not a vacation, this is not a "short term" 2 month-6 month deal. This is IT!!! This is where God sent me to share Jesus with everyone and lead them to the Lord.

So, as far as this being my new home, like any new home, there will definitely be an adjustment period. It's very chilly here right now. It's over casted, and it was a different feeling being woken up to car horns and the sounds of the hustle and bustles of a busy city.

Right now Jose, Kat, and Pedro (joses's dad) are online drinking coffee, and doing some planning for the day. Today we are gonna try to achieve at looking at a few houses because this apartment is temporary, we need to find a place that we know we will live there for a year.

Next time I blog I will post more pictures, the picture that is on this blog is a picture over-looking our balcony were on the 15th floor.

Things for you guys to pray for:
- That we find a 3-4 bedroom house/furnished/washer and dryer/ in a neighborhood called La Molina/ all under $1,000
-For God's favor to be on us during our every day life here, ever since we started this, we have seen God's favor work in our live's and it has blown us away. He is faithful!
-That I can get a "religious visa" (missionary purpose) in less than 90 days. My tourist visa is 90 days, so with in that time I need to have all the finances and paper work for my religious visa so i can be here longer. I will be needing about $500 ...If you would like to help WITH ANY amount so I can begin this process, let me know :)

Thank You guys for praying for us, and keeping us in mind. We appreciate all all support.

Some Peru facts about the children there

Here are a bunch of statistics that are really heart breaking. While I don't put my trust in statistics these are a good indication that we live in a hurting and dying world. I wanted to share them so those of you that are interested and/praying for us can have an idea of what we will be working with.

Many children in Peru are sent to work to support their families in spite of child labor being against the law. Two out of ten children ages 6-11 work and there are more than 3 million children working in Peru. Due to the high and persistent levels of poverty, Peruvian children are often sent out by their parents to earn money on the streets. This might be by selling sweets or crafts, begging, performing acrobatics, or in one of many other ways.

Studies show that 90% of street children come from rebuilt (with step-father or step-mother) or mono-parental families, or from rural families that had 'given' their child to other people (relatives or not) to be raised by the latter in the city.

Children are often blamed and at the receiving end of family disputes so much so that the streets appear as a better alternative than the family home. Too scared and afraid of another episode of violence, the children run to the streets for the comfort and refuge they so badly seek. One research project found that 73% of the street children they interviewed cited family violence and child mistreatment as reasons for taking to the streets. The report also suggests that most street-living boys in Peru are children who had become 'scapegoats' in their family; blamed for causing conflict and stress, and maltreated when their families were going through a crisis.

These statistics illustrate not only the need for a safe haven for homeless children. They also illustrate the need to build godly men to reverse the curse of fatherlessness. Our desire is to teach these “men” that “Maturity doesn’t come with age but begins with the acceptance of responsibility” (-Edwin Louis Cole) and not just accepting responsibility for yourself but for those around you.

Peru Update

Hello everyone!

I want to start off and say that the very small details are still unsure, but as far as the plan, here it is.

We will be arriving in Lima in the middle of August we will start helping "La Casa Del Padre" (The Father's House, a local church in La Molina, Lima Peru, its the church we are being sent too)  August 24th, '10 is the exact date we leave for Lima! We will spend the earlier month of August finalizing things and visiting some special people here in the States before heading out.

"La Casa Del Padre" will be having a conference on September 9-11 so we will pretty much hit the ground running in late August till 2nd week of September helping them set that up, and wrapping up after. Specifics of what we will be doing from day to day in Lima are kind of hard to say right now simply because the nature of ministry is to be available to do whatever we are needed for whenever we are needed. We are ready to dig into the harvest and start helping out in the ministry in Lima, Peru.

During our stay in Lima WE WILL DEFINITELY be involved helping out regularly at a local orphanage. We understand that there are many set-ups as far as how to run an orphanage, so as we are in Lima, we are gonna learn how to run one and prepare ourself  for about a year. That way, when we build ours, we would already know the laws behind it, and how to do things properly. I'm excited to learn from the orphanage in Lima, it will be a great learning experience where we hope to reproduce ourselves in that ministry. In the process of helping out an orphanage in Lima, we will be traveling to Piura very often ( which is North Peru) and trying to get all the legal work done to prepare for our orphanage that WE WILL HAVE there, as well as looking for land to build one or just a building. This will be a VERY LABORIOUS  task and I ask that in this area you will definitely keep us covered in prayer, that we will be lead to the right people, and that the right doors would open. We want everything to be within God's will and plan, we don't want to move forward if he says stay, nor stay if he says move. The reason for that is, because we can't just open a building and tell the random kids to come and live with us. (Even though I would love that, because the NEED IS GREAT) We want to do things with the spirit of excellence and with-in the laws of Peru/man. We don't have an exact date when that will happen, but we know that it is all in Jesus' time, he is never late nor early and that he directs our steps. The exact time is not sure at this point how long we will stay in Lima but it will likely be 1-2 years to work with "La Casa Del Padre" and Pastor Guillermo Aguayo, we know this Pastor will help us greatly in this process, and were grateful for that.

Once we complete our time in Lima we will be moving up north to Piura, Lima. Our gears will change once we get there. Our goal in Piura is to start an orphanage (which I mentioned above) and a church with the focus of building men to lead their families in righteousness.

If you are interested in supporting our mission and would like to make a tax deductible donation we will have an account with our church that you can give into. (I will give more details about that once we have it set up)

If you want to give and are not concerned about having a tax deductible donation you can give into my personal account by clicking the "DONATE" button on the top right. Email me at viccetina@gmail.com for further info or questions.

Finally, if you are a member of our "Powerhouse" family and you already give to Powerhouse please continue to give into the church. Pastor has established a missions account that will support the mission to Peru.
